The professional Pharmacy Student Organization and WSU Health and Wellness are providing vaccines for $15.
Flu season is just around the corner, but students can bypass the sniffling, sneezing, coughing, itchy, achy season by taking part in “Operation Immunization” this week.
Health and Wellness and the Professional Pharmacy Student Organization (PPSO) is hosting “Operation Immunization,” a program sponsored by the American Pharmacists Association offering flu immunizations to people in the WSU community.
Immunizations for the flu will be offered at a variety of locations including the CUB, The Bookie and Todd Auditorium, as well as many residence halls and campus buildings. For a complete list of locations along with specific dates and times, visit www.hws.wsu.edu.
Flu vaccines cost $15. Cash, check, MasterCard and Visa credit cards and debit cards are all accepted.
Certain people are at a high risk for contracting the flu: people 65 years and older, adults and children who need regular medical care. Women who are pregnant should also look into receiving the influenza vaccine.
According to a WSU news release, the Center for Disease Control recommends that certain people do not get vaccinated. People with a severe allergy to chicken eggs, people who have had a severe reaction to the vaccine in the past and people who currently have an illness involving a fever are discouraged from getting the vaccine.
In 2000, Health and Wellness Services started working with the PPSO to promote and give the influenza vaccine. The Cougar Health Awareness Team later joined the effort, helping with support, setup and take down for events.
“PPSO is an umbrella organization that consists of four major pharmacy groups,” said Linda Mach, a freshman pharmacy major. “Its members are students who are already in the pharmacy program."
