Roche queried over Tamiflu price...

admin @ Tue, 2005-10-25 17:46

Roche is considering its response and has 10 days to provide information on the ex-factory price for Tamiflu in Switzerland and neighbouring European markets. The regulator has asked Swiss pharmacies to detail their margins. “Both groups have 10 days. We will then study their response and decide whether to open a formal investigation,” said Rudolf Strahm, the Swiss price regulator.

Pricing for most medicines is covered by government-set controls. But Mr Strahm said this was the first case he could remember of concern about a drug not on the list.

The action follows reports that Tamiflu can be bought more cheaply outside Switzerland. A standard treatment comprising 10 capsules taken twice daily for five days, costs SFr86.50 ($68, €56, £38) at a pharmacy in Switzerland. According to Blick, Switzerland’s biggest selling newspaper, it costs equivalently SFr39 in France and SFr53 in Germany.
